Hearing versus Listening!

These days, we’re all “hearing” a whole lot of everything: cell phones, computers, printers, music, transportation noise. Has all this “hearing” effected our “listening”? When was the last time you sat in complete silence? Can you find complete silence anywhere close to your home? Noise pollution is at an all time high. (look on-line for maps of noise levels in your town and state).  Is all this noise exposure effecting our “inner” hearing: our ability to listen? Many of us know the difference between hearing and really listening.  If it’s been a while since you listened closely to your loved one, family or friends, with no distractions, try it. Put down the cell phone, turn off the music, power down the computer and simply listen. Even if you’re all alone in a room. Listen. To the muffled noises from outside, your heater cycling, the sound of your own breath, maybe even your pulse. Relaxing isn’t it?  A significant aspect of good health care involves active listening, paying careful attention to a patient’s responses and concerns and listening closely to what the body has to say.

At Eldorado Family Health we’re here to listen, closely, to your healthcare needs and concerns.
